How To Be Your Best Self in 2019

It is the month of new beginnings and wanting to better yourself, but you probably feel guilty that you've already failed Dry January with a glass of wine, or had a take-away when you said to yourself that this year "things will be different."


But is it really worth to pay for a gym membership and not go? Let's be honest, we are all guilty of wasting money one way or another. Perhaps saving money is one of your New Year's resolutions.


Take Advantage of the New Year's Motivation

The motivational aspect of January is fantastic! Everybody is trying to be on their A-Game to get back on track. However, the ones of us which are just starting out and just choosing a path can not be expected to master the mind and find the inner strength to succeed without any preparation or help. 


We put way too much pressure on ourselves to instantly become "our best selves" once the clock strikes midnight. Take a step back and let the motivational energy of the new year influence you positively without putting too much pressure on yourself. We are all in the same boat. 


Ditch the Expectations

There is this expectation in society to always better ourselves despite what time of the year it is. It's there every day, when you scroll through your feed and see someone's workout routine video or their holiday count-down to a tropical island destination. 


As if your never-ending to-do list you keep adding to isn't bad enough, you now put more pressure on yourself with the start of yet, another year. You absolutely don't need to meet any expectations apart from your own.


Set Yourself Up For Success, Not Failure

It is simply not realistic to go cold-turkey and gain the discipline to stick to a brand new regime over night. The pressure that society puts on us with expectations, undeniably contributes towards setting ourselves up for failure.


Instead, try to get rid of the bad habit gradually and over time, perhaps with a habit tracker? But you don't need any fancy notebooks or apps – simply write it down. 


Be Your Own Biggest Supporter

Ever wanted a best friend like yourself? You can be! The voice in your mind is so powerful and you should do absolutely everything to make it positive. If you heard someone talk to your best friend the way you sometimes beat yourself up, you wouldn't accept it at all!


Try your very best every day, even if it is just five minutes, to be aware of your thoughts and turn them positive. You're not where you want to be in life yet and that's okay. Most of us are still figuring it all out. 


Stick to Your Goals

Set yourself realistic, small short-term goals and tackle them one at a time. 


Want to be be fitter? Download workout apps or follow a workout on youtube from home.

Want to save money? Confront your bank statement and set a budget plan. 

Want to be healthier? Start making your lunches at home and stop eating out.


You are entirely in control of your own life and only you can make these changes happen. Just don't try to do them all at once is what we're saying – otherwise you're setting yourself up for failure.


So we think the ultimate goal for 2019 should be 'Being kind to yourself'! x
